Flash: The Ancient Vitz Tree

Green leaves peeled away from a timepiece, then the metal-seeming object broke from the stem to fall into Damonia’s waiting hands. “Thank you, great one.”

The next child stepped forward for their gift from the town tree while Damonia walked away, completing the adulthood ceremony. Most supplicants receive an edible fruit from the Vitz.

Once away from the crowd, the newly fruited adult eyed the watch.

Ungood. That is what this was. Beautiful, breathtaking, but ungood.

Flash: Forget Kindness

The pastoral setting, complete with sheep and cattle munching the summer grass on the rolling hills in between small wooded areas was completed by children running and tumbling over each other like a pack of puppies, laughing. In the distance, a wall city, no doubt home to the boys stood sentry over their play though they have ranged far from their home.

Between the range and the hills, no bow shot would save them from the two pale ghosts watching them from the forest’s abrupt edge when the pastures and fields ended and the wild woods began. The parents of the children, nobles and commoners both judging by the clothing, did not yet need the woods for their fires and the land for their animals. But later, in the fall, more would be cut back. In the meantime, the forest and its guardians watched.

The watchers’ eyes danced over the double handful of children so far from the safety of the walled city, howling like a pack of wolves, chasing one boy slightly ahead of the rest. The couple was not pleased to see a pack hunting in their territory.

The lead boy was dirtier than the pack members and younger than most of his pursuers. His rough-spun clothes had a slightly different cut indicating maybe one of the lesser religions or an immigrant child, the watchers weren’t familiar with the intricate strata of the city-born but could pick out an outsider easily. After all, those are the best prey as this pack had discovered.

All kinds of boys chased, with clothing from fine to sturdy. In the middle ran a tireless child with long silken hair flowing behind him, the pure white a beacon among the humans. Silks and jeweled colors as well as location in the pack indicate his status. Also among the pack were two golden-tressed children, with hair not quite as inhumanly straight as the pure-bred elf, their skin not as pale and lacking the inner glow of natural magik. Their clothing not quite as fine. One ran toward the front of the group, nearly too old to be part of this hunt, his longer strides leading the way. The other lagged in the back egging on the others, yellow eyes wild with the pleasure of pursuit.

The watchers also had white hair and untannable skin, their slanted yellow eyes noting the three pack members related to their race. All of them were older than the watchers by several years.

The elder of the two asked, “Shall we intervene sister?”

“Yes, let’s,” she answered, lifting the camouflage cloak’s hood over the leaves mingling with her braids. Together they moved quietly, invisibly, using their magiks to dampen their natural glow, appearing little more than branches moving in the wind with an occasional flash of white sunlight dappling the green and brown.

The hounds had ran down the fox and encircled the defeated bloody boy. Several pack members threw small stones with practiced accuracy. Other closed to kick and punch. The mob roared insults as damaging as their fists, laughing as both hit and wounded. They hid their actions in the shadows of the trees out of sight of the city.

Suddenly among them appeared the watchers, now actors.

“Go away.” The noble elf, sneered at his younger woodland cousins. “This has nothing to do with the likes of you. Return to your trees.”

“No.” The woodland-raised boy responded without inflection. He raised his hand, his cloak and linen shirt falling back along his pale arm. Dropping the glamour hiding his glow, the hand flared, freezing the tormentors in place.

He looked at the beaten boy shivering in the center of the lot, unfurling from his fetal position to find out why the kicking had stopped. The youngster held his ribs on the left side. Seeing the two wood elves and his frozen harassers, he scuttled back as best he could until he bumped up against one of the pack. His eyes darted between the blond noble spawn and the barbaric wizard, clearly trying to figure out which was the biggest threat.

The male wood elf, just two years older than the prey, made the decision easier. He showed his teeth, the pointed canines of a meat eater. “Run while you can.”

The lad scrambled, stood, and ran further into the woods, as though those would provide safety from what he left behind.

When the crashing sounds of the panicked animal faded, the wood elf turned his attention to the crowd he held motionless. “Now for those who would hunt in our woods–”

“No brother, let me. I’ve never had a kill.” His younger sister interrupted, her lilting soft voice carrying like a hawk screech through the company.

Her brother shuddered but pulled back the death magik he had been preparing. His sister was stronger and far more dangerous than him, but not yet come fully into her own. Of the two, she would be ruler and he follower. Up until now he had mentored her, but today, it seemed, would be the day she would come into her own.

First blood.

The enemies which chased them aged her quicker than they knew; they would come to regret that when the pair returned to home and reclaimed their birthrights.

“Cover our tracks,” she ordered without a second thought, already the leader. He bowed his head to her will and slipped off as she raised her hand and took over the spell holding the youths as though she cast it herself.

The dethroned elf queen, not yet eight, but the bloodline of dozen queens from Under-the-Hill ran through her veins, walked among the human and the elven children. Offspring of those who had forsaken the traditions. Even the purebred elf, son of the city’s sovereign and half-way through his studies could not displace the magik holding him. Her will held them all.

“You are killers like us. I can see,” her eyes raked like claws over them, “two spirits clinging to you. Their blood never leaving where it had been spilled, biding their time. It has now arrived.”

The second son of the local king and his courtier sycophants struggled harder, sweat beading on their brows. She released the tightness of the bonds so their struggle would be visible to the others. The rest of the pack’s eyes grew white with fear when they realized not even the most powerful among them could escape what was to come.

“The tongue torments, the body attacks, and the fist and feet deliver pain, so it was done to others. So shall it be returned in full to each involved. Let those who suffered pay back the torments, attacks, and pain.” The young girls’ words growled like angry bear and screamed like an eagle half a second before and after her spoken sounds. At the end of the spell, she slashed her hand down releasing the pack from stasis.

Pain and fear dropped them to their knees.

“For your age, a kindness. Not everyone will dies here.” She smiled with her canines showing as the screams started. “Only if you killed, you will die.”

“No, no, I’ve never killed anyone.” The noble with the blond hair who ran in the back of the group twisted in pain, begging.

She glided to where he lay. “Then you are the worst coward of the pack. Killing by using others.” Bruises started forming on his lightly tanned skin, and his screams start in earnest. “If your pack spirit has delivered pain, your fist and tongue remember and so shall it be done.”

She inhaled deeply, then sealed the spell so none could stop it. “By my will.”

The screams ripped the throats of the boys into shreds. None would ever speak again if they managed to survive.

Only one child did not scream, but he stared. How he stared.

The soon-to-be baptized killer slipped among the rolling bodies like a lady at a ball swishing through a crowd. She stood beside the six-year old when he managed to whisper, “What’s happening?”

She glanced down at where he sat, trembling – a year and an eternity stood between them in age. Within her the queens woke, their spirits clinging to their blood centuries after their death. “You should choose your companions more wisely. Today you would have been a killer. Instead a spirit of retribution stole out of the woods; that is all you will remember.”

She touched his forehead. “Now run, and no one but you will ever know you were here.”

The boy ran and ran. Through the gates and to his guildman father’s home to hide in the workroom the rest of the day, week, month, and year. He never left the city walls again.

***

The prey stopped running, listening to the faroff screams. Lost, gulping air against an ancient oak, tears streaming through the blood marring his face.

Behind him a silent ghost stepped out of the shadow and touches his shoulder. The glow of magik flowed over the hand into the boy’s body healing and into his mind to hide the actions of two children who would not be found yet. “Run home child, the woods kept you safe today. Forget its kindness because it may not happen ever again.”

Flash: Porter Gets Infravision

“Why didn’t you wake me?” Porter hissed at Tik as she scrambled out of her bedroll.

The half-orc warrior shook her head in confusion as the warlock hastily stuffed her items into her backpack. Those touched by magic were a strange lot. Powerful. The arching lighting between the immovable warlock and the closing bugbear was etched into her eyeballs from the afternoon battle. Who knew their little oxen driver had that up her sleeves?

Tik angled her body away from the banked campfire to continue watch on the raccoon family trundling through the thicket where the small caravan was hiding. The small snaps and rustling from the raccoons and Porter interfered with her ability to hear further afield. While her party managed to clear out the nearby goblin lair, other creatures with ill intent may be nearby.

Porter stepped over the halfling and sideslipped past the half-elf before joining Tik at her post. “I can’t believe no one else is up yet. The dwarven chants usually get me up long before now.”

“I just started my shift.” Tik injected to cut the verbose teenager off. They may be the same age, but the human had a very different life experience.

“What?” Porter stage-whispered. “But you don’t usually start until mid…”

Tik watched as the dark-skinned girl looked up, her curls flowing down her back as her face turned skyward.

“That isn’t the sun.”

“Nope.” Tik responded to the bizarre statement.

“The moon.”

“Yep.”

“And stars.”

“Yep.”

“Really?” Porter threw out her arms, whispering loudly to the heavens. “Now you give me this?!”

Tik watched as she stomped softly through the group of sleeping bodies to get her pack. Words muttered under-breath carried strangely around the heat currents of the fire. “Of all the … omnipotent asshole … roulette of the mind … is everything …”

When the only full human in the party had returned, Porter stood in front of Tik on the side away from the fire and took a cleansing breath in and out before smiling the fakest smile Tik had ever seen outside of a merchant. “I will be going into the woods a little ways. Don’t worry if you see any lightning or hear any maniacal laughter. There may even be a little screaming.”

Tik shrugged. “I am not to worry if you die. Got it.”

A genuine smile split Porter’s beautiful face. “Exactly! Oh, I do like you.”

Later the half-elf joined Tik watching the minor dancing lights beyond the thicket. “What is up?”

“Porter.”

“That girl has issues.”

Tik grunted, wiping the dew from her weapon.

“Did she get enough sleep?”

“Not after what she has been doing for the last three hours.”

“Hmmm.” The half-elf tilted her head sideways. “Maybe I should help her.”

“I wouldn’t interrupt.” Tik sheathed her blades before standing. She was looking forward to a final catnap before dawn. In the predawn light, she noticed the dwarf rolling his bedroll for his morning prayers. “Besides the shrieks stopped a little while ago; she is nearly done.”

Shift change completed, Tik was asleep before her elbows made contact with the dirt. She only woke when the slight breeze blowing on her back was blocked. Porter liked sleeping near the two women fighters; her unique scent of roses, sand, and soot traveled on what was left of the breeze. Tik’s mind noted the change as nonthreatening and fell back to dreamless sleep. Come dawn, they were going to storm a castle and everyone needed to be sharp.

Yes, it is from a D&D campaign. My Warlock character got infravision between battles after needing it as the only non-infrared vision character of the party. This is what I pictured her reaction to be. This is an attempt to align game mechanics with storytelling.

Flash: Jail Break

Rating: Mature

Rare sunlight filtered through the bars into the dungeon, highlighting the paleness of Dagonet’s skin. Prison life did not suit a noble of his stature. He was a knight and heir to a County. Other lesser warriors and nobles could expect to wait in the dank, dark reaches of their enemy’s castle for ransom to be paid. Those like him, heroes on the battlefield and nobles baptized in the same waters as princes, are housed in locked towers with full bedchambers or allowed the dignity of parole.

He had been offered neither parole nor politeness. The lordling’s anger seethed deep; these affronts will not be left unanswered.

Heavy doors opening and closing echoed to his cell. Clinking keys jiggling. During the nine days since his deposit in this stygian hole, his captors inadequately provided his needs through one girl. They hadn’t even honored his prowess with guards, bored or abusive.

Small slippered feet were the first to be seen on the stone steps, then the hem of servant garments. A covered basket emerged from one sleeve and oversized keys from the other, the hands completely concealed by the ill-fitting sleeves. Eventually the blonde chit’s pleasant face became visible.

“Good after the noon, Sir Weckheim.”

His eyes narrowed as she approached, not returning the greeting to one so below his status. Undeterred by his disregard, she confidently opened the cell door and brought the food in. She left the door ajar with no fear of his escape, his chains were heavy and cumbersome and would take an ogre to break, and she was not allowed to carry the keys to them.

The young woman gracefully kneeled, putting the keys to one side and her basket to the other.

“The cook sent the normal slop, the stuff given to the beggars.” She pulled a half-full bowl out of the basket of vegetables in chicken broth. Then she sent him a shy look, keeping her head appropriately bowed. “But today the staff had sausages, and I managed to sneak a few out.”

Dagonet’s stomach growled as the girl laid out three thick rolls of spiced meat longer than his hand. He had not had solid meat since the morning before his capture on the battlefield. Hearing the sound, her head snapped up and her face went from a mask concentrating on her duty to a sweet smile.

It transformed her.

Kneeing in a golden pool of sun, the first light to grace the cell in days, her grey linen dress tight across her legs and breasts, the oversized sleeves pushed up to her elbows, the female became for an instant the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.  Her hands were elegant, nimble in movement, leaving dust particles shimmering in their wake as she pulled another item from her basket of bounty.

Dagonet didn’t process it, he was transfixed by other attractions.

Her smiling lips were rich and plump as berries. The light changed her eyes into blue orbs of cool water.

Already seated, he found it easier to fall onto his hands and crawled to her. His chained clinked menacingly as he approached. He watched her breasts rise and fall as she inhaled, the cloth confining them clearly showing her arousal as her nipples hardened.

“And … and … the cellar had a bottle of wine go bad.” She stammered, licking her lips. “It’s vinegary, but with the sugar and cloves I added it should be better than…”

She stopped talking as he drew up in front of her. He took the bottle from her loose grip and placed it beside the meat and stew.

“Later.” The knight whispered his first word spoken at or to the servant, before taking her face in his hands and pulling her in for a kiss.

She tasted of fennel and garlic, her skin as soft as down.  Dragonet slid his right hand to grasp her breast, the girl’s mouth opened in a moan and he plundered freely. His left hand ceased controlling her head and moved to press her willing body closer to him.

Her nimble, uncallused fingers danced over his bare chest. His captors had removed his armor, stripped his clothes to bind his wounds, and never gave him new garments. Much bolder than ladies of his rank, the woman’s hands quickly found their way into his braies to beguile his manhood.

He pulled away slightly, her lips waiting until the last minute to break away. Panting rapidly, he unlaced her kirtle. Before he could cup her breasts, she pushed him onto the cut stone floor.

“Oh, no, my lord, I want to see what I am mounting first.” Her saucy glee nearly made him laugh, but she removed his drawers and was stroking his prick before his laugh escaped. A moan replaced it. Her sly look came back, “Now this looks like a much better sausage than what be served at my master’s table.” After the declaration, she took his cock wholly into her mouth and swallowed.

No woman had ever taken him in such a fashion. He nearly released from the sensation.

Her tongue darted along his hardening length. Then she took him by his tip and drew her sweet berry lips tight around him, and slowly, like drawing juice from a peach, sucked him until she reached his root. How she did not gag he could not fathom, for he had never been so hard or long before.

“If you are going to mount me woman, do it now, or I will ride you, mouth and pussy, until you cannot use neither.”

The blonde released his cock with a pop. Climbing over his legs, she drew her skirts high and slid onto him, like a sheathe accepting its favorite sword. She drew up on her knees until he was nearly outside her channel then fell again, going deeper.

It still was not deep enough to please him. He rolled them over with his hands holding her thighs, he kneeled and settled his weight heavily between her legs, pinning the wench. Moving the chains so they held the skirts down, he then pushed her legs high and hooked them over his shoulders. Grasping her fleshy ass, he lifted with hands he used to control raging warhorses, and impaled her with his complete length. Holding her ass steady, he drove into her again and again.

Her shrieks echoed each slap of flesh, growing louder and louder. Dagonet moaned counter to each thrust. Eventually the wench screamed. The echo bouncing from the dungeon to the countryside. Dagonet held on through gritted teeth as the woman’s womb tried to milk his seed.

He remained kneeling, holding her ass high and her legs over his shoulders as pants and moans continued to come from the incoherent female. He held a 24-hour vigil on his knees without food or drink, he certainly could wait until the wench was ready again.

When her spasming sheath slowed its pulsing, he pulled his rigid cock partially out. Then plowed it in again, harder and faster than before. Less than two strokes later she screamed again. He kept pounding into her, until a third scream – deeper, longer than the earlier two tore from her lips. Finally he released, pumping her chamber full until he had no more to give.

Nearly unconscious, the knight collapsed onto the female, her legs sliding down his arms and back. He slid lower until his head rested on the belly his seed had filled and drifted off.

I’ve known MJ Blehart for a long time, a couple decades or more, even before the automobile accident that sent him down his new path. The accident where he wasn’t in the car with all the protection of air bags and crumple zones – car vs. human walking equals a lot of problems for the human walking. The doctors seeing a rotund computer geek said he would never walk without aid. Don’t ever tell Mr. Blehart what he can or can’t accomplish.

The man fences now – hence the writing for the anthology “Spells and Swashbucklers“. He knows Swashbuckling.

He also writes, blogs, edits, podcasts, and reads for audiobooks. His blog is focused on Positivity and how Consciousness Creates Reality. Occasionally he collects the posts into non-fiction publication. Most of his fictional work is self-published and shows his growth as a writer. The constant immersion in writing fiction, blogging non-fiction, and exposure to other writers as an editor and reader has him growing by leaps and bounds.
