Art: Embroidery – Beadwork Snowman with Snowy Tree

TIMELINE: 10/10/2026 to 10/28/2026

Every year my modern embroidery guild exchanges Christmas ornaments. This year I decided to attempt a Mill-Hill beaded kit (“Winter Medley – Snowy Tree”) of a snowman and pine tree.

10/18/2026 Kit picture (after the hand embroidery is complete). The beads are in the bowls, the threads from the kit are on the left side.  The second picture is a closeup of the embroidery, as the beadwork is just starting. The “feature” of this project is instead of neatly counting the middle of the project I did the “fold in half” is good enough. –It was not good enough. — The design ended up being 2 squares over the 18-count Adia to the left. There SHOULD have been 2 extra squares either side, instead I had no squares on one side and four squares on the other. I decided to go forward and just create four squares of design on one side to balance the already balanced design. Piece of cake!

10/25/206 Working on the Beadwork. I need to complete the clear and green beads. So, that “piece of cake”… I had to recenter the top and bottom bars relative to the picture in the middle, and then extend them to the sides to take up the whole space. I then added branches and the snow-ice on the bottom. Most importantly I designed the numbers 2026 and added them to the side. Now it looks like “I meant to do this.” I’m really liking this design and think I will redo it as part of a snow globe group project the guild is doing. Only in 14 count instead of 18 count…which might screw up the beads. Also I will need more thread than I have. More on that under the snow globe project.

10/28/2026 Project complete. Pictures are from head on (to see the completed piece) and to the side (so the beadwork is more visible).
